MUMBAI:
English general entertainment channel Star World will start
airing the comedy Samantha Who? from 29 August, every
Friday at 8:30 pm.
Injured
in a car accident, Samantha Newly awakens from an eight-day
coma with amnesia. While trying to piece together her past,
she learns that she used to be a self-absorbed, catty diva.
In her Golden Globe-nominated role, Christina Applegate stars
as a coma victim who awakens with no memory of her mega-nasty
past.
Taking
her amnesia as a sign for change, she tries to make amends
for the damage caused by her former self. Throughout her recovery,
she re-examines her relationships with her boyfriend Todd
(Barry Watson), best pal Andrea (Jennifer Esposito,) and mum
(Jean Smart) while rediscovering the true meaning of life.
After
starring in big-screen comedies as Anchorman: The Legend
of Ron Burgundy and The Sweetest Thing, Applegate
makes a return to TV. She says, “I don’t like to
do the same things twice. So if I am coming back to TV, it
has to have different elements from everything I have done.
“I
like the idea of taking a situation that is not funny and
put a spin to it. Comedy has to be based on reality or it’s
not going to be funny. My character in Samantha Who? is a
confused coma victim.She is just a brand new person who has
been stripped of her past. We want to take real situations
with real characters for a real struggle. It’s something
interesting to tackle.”
